BREATHING FOR
THE CULTURE
Personal
Breathing for the Culture (BFC) is an ongoing series of guided breathing animations inspired by Black culture. In response to disparities in the Black community related to stress and anxiety, BFC is a practical, creative, and culturally relevant tool to help folks destress through breathing–a simple but effective act to combat oppressive systems that often make rest feel inaccessible.
I was introduced to breathing animations by a therapist when I was experiencing high anxiety. I loved the practicality of them and as a motion designer wanted to explore creating them with artistic intention and with Black culture as the guiding visual theme. The first iteration of the series celebrates the creativity and calm of Black hairstyles.
